Diane's background history: My name is Diane Yakimovicz, I was born in Goiania Brazil. I have been dancing since I was seven years old. My passion is folk dance. One of my greatest enjoyments, was when I represented my samba school MOCIDADE INDEPENDENTE DE PADRE MIGUEL during CARNAVAL in Rio, Brazil. I was member of an Axe dancing company back home, I danced for many FORRO bands also. Since I've been in California, I have danced with various dance groups and bands. Currently I'm dancing with Oya Brazil Samba Show by Daniela Brazil, Rio Hot Dancers, Raiz Brazil Dancing Company. I instruct Samba Raggae, Axe and Samba classes. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Lucia's background history: I was born in Salvador Bahia . I am 21 years old. I am currently going to Fashion School and working as>> a model and a dancer. Dancing has always being my biggest passion. Dancing SAMBA brings me closer to Brazil. It also gives me energy and the perfect vibe I need to survive away from home. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Marisa's background history: I was born in Parana, but I was raised in São Paulo. I’m a typical Brazilian girl with a love for music and of course dance. I adore Samba dancing. Since I was little I was already shaking it to the Samba rhythm. I really never imagined that one day I would be dancing in a Samba dance show. It all started as a one-show-only performance for my friends and I ended up liking it so much! I feel like I’m representing my country of Brazil putting on my bikini costume, and I am so proud of Brazil. In addition to Samba, I also like very much Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and Reggeton. I am currently part of Dania’s Oya Brazil Samba Show. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Elizabeth's background history: My background is Portuguese and I was born & raised in Paris, France. From my early years, my roots naturally took me to dancing and Brazilian music. Rhythm running in my veins, I trained in various styles (ballet, modern jazz, lambada, salsa, Afro-Brazilian...). Later, at university, I improved my Portuguese and studied Brazilian civilization & economy. Experiencing Carnaval in Rio in 2002, I was astonished by its incredible beauty and energy! Therefore, I couldn’t wait any longer to specialize in samba dance! Brazilian choreographer Bia de Oliveira (based in Paris) has been my samba trainer for 4 years. During this period of time, I performed as well with her in samba shows in Paris. Months ago, I decided to settle down in Los Angeles and lately, I joined NA ONDA samba group directed by Jeane July. Our group has been recently chosen and honored by Casa do Samba as its 2008 official’s sambistas group! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Carolina's background history: I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but I lived in Resende, Rio de Janeiro for some time. While living in Brazil, samba was not my first choice of dance or music, I liked rock'n roll, rockabilly, classical music, and gypsy jazz. However, I grew up surronded by friends practicing samba at school, and during the carnaval it was impossible not to enjoy them in the street. After I moved to California, samba was not a choice of dance or music for me anymore; it became part of who I am , when I dance samba I feel my people, my history, my culture, and myself as one. I am currently performing for Oya Brazil Samba Show by Daniela Brazil. I have been dancing samba professionally for the past two years. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jeane's background history: I am originally from the United States. I have been a professional dancer for over ten years, but I learned to dance samba in Los Angeles from some of the top Sambistas in L A. I have been dancing Samba for five years and teaching for two years. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jennifer's background history: Hi, I’m originally from Palos Verdes, California. I started out dancing and also as a competitive ice-skater for California state. I continued on cheer, dance teams, salsa and capoeira with lots of interest in many forms of dance. The first time I heard the command of the batucada, it was impossible not to samba! I learned from professional dancers in many dance studios and samba escolas all over California and have since danced with many sambistas- including Valeria and Rio Bela Productions, Jonia who directs Brazil Raiz Dance Company. I now work for a Brasilian Churrascaria here in Los Angeles, doing a weekly samba show, Brasilian night and samba class. Come out and see me some time! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Michelle's background history: Michelle Thayer was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and spent her early childhood there. She moved to Belgium with her family before coming to the United States as an adolescent. The early influences of Brazil finally caught up to her in Portland, Oregon where she became interested in Brazilian culture. The joy of samba soon filled her life. Michelle has studied with several teachers including Donna Oefinger and Ana Laidley. While living in Portland she performed with The Lions of Batucada. She moved to Los Angeles just last year and has performed with several groups including Oya Brazil Samba Show, M.I.L.A. Samba School, Brasilidade and Casa do Samba.
