ONE NIGHT IN BAHIA Featuring FERNANDO EBANO singing all the legendary Olodum songs!

One Night in Bahia! A tribute to the beloved Culture and Traditions of Bahia! A night to remember as we celebrate the incredible music and people that played such an important role in the creation and development of Samba music!

History: During the Colonial Era of Brazil, slaves were brought from Portuguese speaking countries of Africa to Bahia  and with them came the music, ceremonial practices and traditions which are still preserved and practiced  today in Bahia. The African Culture was so rich and beautiful that the Brazilians embraced it and with alot of respect and appreciation incorporated it as their own. Today we know that much of the Music, including Samba have very close ties to the African roots. Slaves and wives of Military Soldiers migrated from Bahia to Rio not even realizing what an impact the African Culture they shared would have on Brazilian History. Sometime during those years in RIO Samba was born during a " Batucada" or "Drum Circle" and at a local Praça (park) the first Samba was composed. From there it spread to the hearts of many across the world.

Join us as the
DJ will be spinning the best of Axe & Samba Reggae and teachers will be on stage teaching all the popular Axe routines during the breaks.

We are currently booking the guest bands,  dance companies and capoeira groups, anyone interested in participating please email us at:

Proudly Presents
The 2008
Carnaval Masquerade Party
featuring the Casa do Samba Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girls free before 10pm!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carnaval Masquerade: on the 01 of Feb we will have our Casa do Samba Carnaval Masquerade Party featuring the Casa do Samba Girls which will be a dress up party. The idea behind this is to educate those who don't know about how the Brazilian “Street" Carnaval is celebrated.

The Samba School parade and Competition is only part of what Carnaval is to Brazilians.  Brazilians have memories of having celebrated on the streets of Rio in the Quadra of our Local Samba Schools. In Rio Samba is Culture and samba schools rehearse throughout the year for the Desfile, The Parade. Carnaval is a celebration that lasts various days where everyone dresses up in costumes and dance on the streets. Much like New Orleans’ very own Marti Gras.

Our desire is to bring back the flavor of Carnaval to those who so dearly miss the amazing energy and share with those who have never actually celebrate Carnaval -- Rio de Janeiro style!!

  • First Official performance by our Casa do Samba Queen of the Bateria!!
  • Performances by our Sambistas
  • Don't forget your costumes!!!

2ND RUNNER UP
QUEEN OF THE DRUMS

Name: Marisa Montoya

Marisa's background history: I was born in Parana, but I was raised in São Paulo. I’m a typical Brazilian girl with a love for music and of course dance. I adore Samba dancing. Since I was little I was already shaking it to the Samba rhythm. I really never imagined that one day I would be dancing in a Samba dance show. It all started as a one-show-only performance for my friends and I ended up liking it so much! I feel like I’m representing my country of Brazil putting on my bikini costume, and I am so proud of Brazil. In addition to Samba, I also like very much Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and Reggeton. I am currently part of Dania’s Oya Brazil Samba Show.

Name: Elizabeth Inácio

Elizabeth's background history: My background is Portuguese and I was born & raised in Paris, France. From my early years, my roots naturally took me to dancing and Brazilian music. Rhythm running in my veins, I trained in various styles (ballet, modern jazz, lambada, salsa, Afro-Brazilian...). Later, at university, I improved my Portuguese and studied Brazilian civilization & economy. Experiencing Carnaval in Rio in 2002, I was astonished by its incredible beauty and energy! Therefore, I couldn’t wait any longer to specialize in samba dance! Brazilian choreographer Bia de Oliveira (based in Paris) has been my samba trainer for 4 years. During this period of time, I performed as well with her in samba shows in Paris. Months ago, I decided to settle down in Los Angeles and lately, I joined NA ONDA samba group directed by Jeane July. Our group has been recently chosen and honored by Casa do Samba as its 2008 official’s sambistas group!

Name: Carolina Rafols

Carolina's background history: I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but I lived in Resende, Rio de Janeiro for some time. While living in Brazil, samba was not my first choice of dance or music, I liked rock'n roll, rockabilly, classical music, and gypsy jazz. However, I grew up surronded by friends practicing samba at school, and during the carnaval it was impossible not to enjoy them in the street. After I moved to California, samba was not a choice of dance or music for me anymore; it became part of who I am , when I dance samba I feel my people, my history, my culture, and myself as one. I am currently performing for Oya Brazil Samba Show by Daniela Brazil. I have been dancing samba professionally for the past two years.
